This is the first monies received by the film distributor after releasing their film before any of taxes, fees, expenses or debts are paid off. If an actor or director receives a first dollar gross deal, this means that they get a percentage of this gross revenue received by the studio. This is very rare these days, but if possible, every talent wants to get a first dollar gross deal because this means that so long as the movie generates revenue, they will be guaranteed money before any of it is put towards taxes, debts, expenses and other fees.
